- What is this e-learning initiative of VTU?
The e-Learning initiative of VTU was started in August 2003
with the main aim of facilitating distance education and training
to the students and faculty in technical subjects/courses through
satellite and web. The delivery of content is via EDUSAT, India's
dedicated satellite for education, and Internet.
- Does this programme replace teachers?
No. It only supplements the conventional system of training
and education and brings uniformity in technical education.
- What are the learning resources made available for
students?
Right now recorded version of classes/sessions transmitted from
studio and IMS complaint
e-Learning content.
- How do I learn?
You can do it by accessing our website http://elearning.vtu.ac.in/index.htm
and browsing your way though the contents you are interested
in.
- Do I need to register to use this facility?
Yes.
- How do I register?
- Though, I am interested in a specific subject/course/topic
I am not able to find it in the website.
This is only the beginning. In due course of time more and more
learning resources will be added to meet learners' needs and
aspirations.
- I have come across additional learning resources.
How do I share this information with others?
There are three ways in which you can do it.
- Announce this in the discussion forum provided on the e-Learning
website http://forum.vtu.ac.in
- Send a request to the particular subject matter expert who
has prepared the content on the VTU e-Learning website to
have a look at the new resource. the subject matter expert
can be contacted through email and his/her email id is available
on the learning website at :

- Send a request to elearning@vtu.ac.in
- How to LAN the EDUSAT programme at college end?
It is indeed possible to view the EDUSAT session on the Local
area Network of a college as the transmission is IP Multicast
enabled. There are a few steps to be followed to make this
happen.
Interactive terminal:
Connect SkyIP modem to the college LAN using a straight cable. Connect the EDUSAT PC to college LAN.
Non-interactive terminal
Connect the college LAN to the EDUSAT PC using a straight cable. Now the college LAN receives the packets from the EDUSAT transmission. Now install the video viewer in all PC's on the LAN where you want to receive the transmission.
This is available at http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.1/win32/vlc-0.8.1-win32.exe
Now copy the EDUSAT Class. bat file from the desktop of EDUSAT PC onto the desktops of all PC's on the LAN where the reception is desired after the installation of the video viewer as outlined above.
Now all that the student has to do is to double click on the EDUSAT Class. bat file on the desktop to receive the session on the LAN.
