The major events
/ programmes organized by e-Learning center during the year 2004:

- Then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr.S.M.Krishna, inaugurated
the
EDUSAT pilot project on January 28, 2004 at ISRO Satellite Centre,
Bangalore in the august presence of Dr.K.Kasturirangan, Member
of Rajya Sabha, Mr.G.Madhavan Nair, Chairman of ISRO, Dr.K.Balaveera
Reddy, Vice chancellor of VTU, Mr.C.K.Jaffer Sharief, MP and
Mr.V.Dhananjaya Kumar, MP. A demo lecture was transmitted from
the studio established at DSERT, Bangalore.
- In association with the service provider of EDUSAT pilot
project, VTU conducted a 3-day operational training for the
coordinators and technicians of the colleges from March 26 to
28 2004 at DSERT, Bangalore.
- The first dry run of the EDUSAT pilot project, consisting
of four live lecture sessions, was conducted for captive audience
of students of six select engineering colleges across Karnataka
from April 5 to April 8 2004.
- The second dry run of the EDUSAT pilot project covering all
the colleges were conducted for four days from 15 to 19 April
2004.
- Feedback report of the dry runs was submitted to Mr.G.Madhavan
Nair, Chairman, ISRO by Dr.K.Balaveera Reddy in presence of
Mr. S.Prabhakaran, Adviser, Mr. Bhatia, Director, ISRO and Dr.
H.Honnegowda, Director, KSRSAC on April 30, 2004.
- ISRO and Association of Indian Universities jointly
organized
a one-day Conference of Vice chancellors on EDUSAT on July 23,
2004 at St.John's Medical College Auditorium, Bangalore, Hon'ble
President of India His Excellency Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam inaugurated
the conference and His Excellency Mr.T.N.Chaturvedi, the Governor
of Karnataka and Mr.Dharam Singh, Hon'ble Chief Minister of
Karnataka, were the Guests of Honour.
On this occasion, the President of India released an educational
compendium titled 'EDUSAT - Indian Satellite in Education',
edited by Dr.K.Balaveera Reddy. This compendium, authored by
Dr.G.L.Shekar, Special Officer, VTU e-Learning Centre, Mysore
with a foreword by Mr.G.Madhavan Nair, Chairman ISRO, provides
an overview of the EDUSAT project and illustrates the successful
implemenetation of the project.
President
of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam,who released the book titled 'EDUSAT
- Indian Satellite in Education'at one-day Conference of on
EDUSAT organised by Indian Space Research organisation in Bangalore
on July 23, 2004, is handing over a copy to its author Dr.G.L.Shekar,
Special Officer, VTU e-Learning Centre, Mysore. The Karanataka
Governor, Mr.T.N.Chaturvedi is also seen in the picture
Dr.K.Balaveera Reddy, gave a presentation on VTU's experience
of EDUSAT pilot project - Karnataka in the afternoon session.
- The e-Learning Centre conducted the satellite-based on-line
counseling of admission to MBA programme of all the universities
in Karnataka from 24.8.2004 to 31.8.2004 by creating video-conferencing
facility at two stations - Bangalore and Belgaum.
Students selected the MBA seats of their choice through satellite
link. This enabled the students in and around Bangalore to select
their seats from Bangalore while those who were in and around
Belgaum select seats from Belgaum. The students at both ends
were able to know what is happening on the other side in this
videoconference link. This was the very first experiment under
VTU-ISRO collaboration.
- The full-semester distance education through satellite started
from September 15, 2004. 120 live lecture sessions, 3 Q &
A classes and 3 "CXO Speaks" sessions were
transmitted from VTU Studio at Bangalore. The concluding session
was held on December 20, 2004.
- The Special Officer, e-Learning Centre, visited Kinst-Bosch
Rexroth Training Institute (K-BRTC), Kyonggi, South Korea, during
the first week of March 2004 to study the technical feasibility
of establishing the state-of-the art Training Centre on Industrial
Drives and Control in Karnataka, akin to K-BRTC, the only centre
of its kind in the world.
